Apple has taken the mask off and joined Google to ban the social media platform Parler until the app creates adequate moderation that would essentially crack down on the free speech that Parler exists to facilitate.
Apple said in a statement on Saturday that, “Parler has not taken adequate measures to address the proliferation of these threats to people’s safety. We have suspended Parler from the App Store until they resolve these issues.”
Translation; Parler allows speech and discourse that we don’t approve of, and as such, we are banning it until Parler complies with our demands.
This action by Apple and Google only further shows how there is a gross monopoly in the social media industry, and it is a threat to our nation. The power to control information should not be concentrated in the hands of two corporations.
Apple and Google aren’t even quiet about the power they hold, and the need for reform is more imperative than ever.
Corporations like Apple and Google have become a greater threat to our Democracy than any President could ever be.
