Freshman Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is hoping to increase voter turnout in her district in preparation for her reelection campaign.
At a small gathering in Corona, Queens, Ocasio-Cortez said, “This year, we want to multiply turnout by four times. That’s our goal. We want to secure 60,000 votes in the primary election. We need to start creating a turnout machine right now.”
AOC is facing a lot of competition for her seat. Twelve Democrats and three Republicans are vying for her seat.
Despite her national reputation, AOC has done herself no favors with the Democrat party. She has angered many with her publicity-seeking attitude.
AOC’s victory was the product of extremely low turnout, and encouraging voters to get out may actually be a mistake.
Without the support of the DNC, AOC may be a one-term representative with a bad reputation for her short time in Washington.
