Poised to have the smallest-ever House majority after likely losing at least 12 seats in the November election, some Democrats are telling the far-left wing of their party, led by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, that she and her cohorts will ruin the party if they continue to champion socialism and defunding the police.
Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger told colleagues on a call with reporters that the party should “never use the word socialist or socialism again.”
South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn said way back in March, ““If we are going to run on Medicare for All, defund the police, socialized medicine, we’re not going to win.”
For AOC’s part, after championing both socialism and defunding police, she claimed her talking points were just “slogans”: “These were largely slogans, or they were demands from activist groups that we saw in the largest uprising in American history against police brutality.”
Based on her words, the bottom line is, Democrats lost big in the House and failed to take the Senate because she wanted to wave around “slogans” and kowtow to activist groups. I guess she shouldn’t try to judge the entire electorate based on her ultra-liberal New York congressional district.
