It’s just not getting any better for Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago, in regards to gun violence in the city.
Over the first weekend in June, the city saw 55 shootings, with five of them ending with fatalities.
One of the victims was an 11-year-old girl, shot in the back of the head by a person riding by as a passenger in a vehicle.
Shootings and homicides are both up in 2021 over 2020 levels; it will be interesting to see whether they continue to increase as 2021 continues, given the protests that occurred last year and spurred more violence.
It is worthwhile to note that Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in America, but that isn’t stopping the violence there.
