Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is stepping up New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s pressure to resign.
In a joint-statement with Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Ocasio-Cortez said, “After two accounts of sexual assault, four accounts of harassment, the Attorney General’s investigation finding the Governor’s admin hid nursing home data from the legislature & public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign.”
Cuomo has so far held strong, and it seems like he will not resign under any circumstances. Republicans in New York have taken note of this and are moving to begin impeaching him, although on what charges are something that has yet to be decided.
Republicans will likely go after Cuomo over the thousands of nursing home patients who died after his administration ordered nursing home take in patients with positive coronavirus tests.
While the accusations against Cuomo seem strong, ultimately, the thousands of dead nursing home patients are of greater concern. Furthermore, Republicans have hard evidence that Cuomo covered up the deaths to avoid scandal.
If Cuomo refuses to resign and is impeached for his role in the nursing home deaths, that will give other Democrat Governors reason to worry. New York wasn’t the only state with a tragic amount of nursing home deaths.
