Air Force One was just involved in a startling incident thousands of feet off the ground. Some are wondering whether terror was involved. President Donald Trump is in shock.
AFP’s Sebastian Smith reported that Trump “just landed at Andrews on AF1. Shortly before, while descending, we flew right over a small object, remarkably close to the president’s plane. Resembled a drone though I’m no expert.”
The White House correspondent “had a window seat” on the plane, according to one of Smith’s colleagues, Jennifer Jacobs, a senior White House reporter for Bloomberg News.
At the time of this story, it was not yet confirmed that the object was a drone, but “close calls” with unmanned aircraft have increasingly become a problem — especially for the Air Force.
This is why the FAA is reportedly advocating “for new regulations on unmanned aircraft” that would allow for better tracking and even possible prosecution for misuse, especially “for nefarious purposes.”
Thankfully, it does not appear that Trump, the crew, or anyone else aboard Air Force One was in immediate danger, but this could change once an official report is released about the incident.
