Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) just officially withdrew and Democrats are shocked. They never expected him to make this stunning move — there’s no turning back now.
According to Fox News and a statement from Schiff, he has withdrawn his endorsement from Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s re-election bid. She is an African-American.
“We have a responsibility to make profound changes to end systemic racism & reform criminal justice,” said Schiff, who withdrew his endorsement from Lacey along with Assemblymember Laura Friedman.
Explaining their decision, the California politicians said that they “no longer feel our endorsement of Jackie Lacey a year ago has the same meaning. We have decided to withdraw it.”
Interestingly enough, not only is Lacey an African-American, she is the first black woman to serve in this powerful role. But at least one issue may have led to Schiff’s unexpected decision.
Protesters recently gathered outside of Lacey’s home and demanded that charges be brought against police officers “who fatally shot Alex Flores and Daniel Hernandes,” according to Fox News.
