Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) wants to throw the Electoral College out, joining with a growing number of Democrats who want to change our nation’s electoral process.
On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” Schiff said, “I think we’re better off focusing on discrete amendments to the Constitution to overturn Citizens United and make sure that we can have elections untampered or uninfluenced by excessive expenditures and dark money. And I would favor doing away with the Electoral College system.”
Doing away with the Electoral College would solidify the tyranny of the majority and ensure that highly populated liberal cities would determine the nation’s politics.
The Electoral College is designed to keep states with large populations, like New York and California, from controlling the entire country.
Ever since President Trump won the election in 2016 despite losing the popular vote, Democrats have wanted to do away with the Electoral College. Typically for Democrats, they want to do away with rules and institutions that stand in their way on their long march to total control.
If Democrats gain the power to eliminate the Electoral College, the majority of the nation will have little or no say in national politics.
