The final wording of a Trump administration rule reversal aimed at redefining sex discrimination removes language that includes gender identity and abortion under the law.
The Obama-era rule had broadened the term to include both gender identity and abortion, and could have led to health care entities that received federal funding being forced to provide abortions or gender reassignment procedures.
President of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement the new rule “clarifies abortion is not a civil right.”
A federal judge ruled that the Obama-era rules violated civil rights law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.
