Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said during a press conference Tuesday that he was not considering a run for president in 2024 that could pit him against former President Donald Trump in the primary.
“All the speculation about me [running for president] is purely manufactured,” DeSantis told reporters. “I just do my job and we work hard… I hear all this stuff and honestly it’s nonsense.”
DeSantis is polling a distant second to Trump among Republicans, 67% to 10% in the latest survey.
If Trump decides not to run, however, DeSantis is the front runner at 32%, ahead of Vice President Mike Pence at 24% and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at 13%.
Whether or not DeSantis runs in 2024, his profile has risen significantly due to his standing up to Democrats on COVID restrictions and representing conservative values in Florida.
