The city of Chicago continues to experience abnormally high numbers of shootings, with 14 occurring between Friday night and Sunday morning.
Of the 14 shootings, there was one fatality, a 27-year-old man who was shot in the leg and died while being transported to the hospital.
Through April 9, 2022, there have been 145 homicides this year so far, a drop from last year when there were 797 homicides, the most in 25 years.
Last weekend, 27 people were shot and six died.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has blamed a lack of gun control laws for the high number of shootings even though Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the entire U.S.
