The entire nation is in shock after a body was found. She is dead, and the cause is not yet officially known. But speculation is swirling as people mourn.
She has been named “Monica,” and this little baby, estimated to be at 20-weeks gestation, was found in a gruesome way — inside a bag. But many stepped up to show her respect in death and it’s a testament to the power of life.
It is being speculated that Monica’s mother likely experienced a horrific, second-trimester miscarriage, and while the mother could not be located, the NYPD and the Life Center of New York knew what to do.
Six NYPD police officers ushered a tiny casket in a funeral procession for Monica, and bagpipers from the department provided music. The ceremony took place at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The Life Center of New York covered all costs associated with the funeral and led the organization effort. “Baby Monica, like all of us, deserves dignity and respect in living and dying,” said Fred Trabulsi, the center’s director.
The short life and tragic passing of little Monica should be a sobering reminder to us all, and the contrast couldn’t be starker. Even though New York allows abortion at 20 weeks, community members rightly chose to honor her as a person.
