Attorney General William Barr just gave the order, and Democrats are panicking. There’s nothing they can do to stop him from moving forward.
After a 16-year hiatus, Attorney General Barr has ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to resume capital punishment for those convicted of federal crimes — and five people who have run out of appeals are now scheduled to be put to death.
“Congress has expressly authorized the death penalty through legislation adopted by the people’s representatives in both houses of Congress and signed by the President,” noted Barr in a DOJ press release.
He continued: “The Justice Department upholds the rule of law — and we owe it to the victims and their families to carry forward the sentence imposed by our justice system.”
The five individuals currently scheduled for execution are all convicted of grisly murders and other connected crimes, however, at least one member of Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s far-left ‘squad’ wants to put an end to Barr’s plan.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) has filed legislation to abolish the death penalty as a counter-measure to Barr’s announcement. “The death penalty has no place in a just society,” she said. The families of murder and rape victims would disagree.
