Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke — the former Texas congressman who failed in his challenge to Sen. Ted Cruz — was just personally humiliated. It’s blowing up on the internet and his campaign could be in major trouble.
“On this St. Paddy’s Day, a special message from noted Irishman Robert Francis O’Rourke,” the GOP tweeted. Accompanying the text was a photo of O’Rourke’s 1998 mugshot after being arrested for drunk driving, complete with a green top hat.
The photo was also captioned with “Please Drink Responsibly,” which is the primary point being made here. O’Rourke is attempting to position himself as the young, squeaky-clean candidate, but it’s a false front.
O’Rourke made it even worse by issuing this response: “I think people want us focused on the big picture. They want us to be defined not by this pettiness or the personal attacks that we see in ones like the ad that you just described.”
His comment was posted on Twitter in a video from Johnny Verhovek, a political reporter for ABC covering the 2020 election, according to his profile. If this is how the upcoming presidential race is going to look, it’s shaping up to be brutal.
Already, there’s even a TV ad running in Iowa against O’Rourke and one of the many topics covered is his DUI arrest. The ad is paid for by Club for Growth, a conservative political action group dedicated to lower taxes and fewer regulations.
