Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) said in Detroit on Tuesday that Democrats are in the process of trying to figure out how to arrest Trump administration officials that have ignored congressional subpoenas.
“This is the first time we’ve ever had a situation like this,” she said. “So they’re trying to figure out, no joke, is it the D.C. police that goes and gets them? We don’t know. Where do we hold them?”
Tlaib was referring to Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Attorney General William Barr, who were held in criminal contempt for ignoring subpoenas earlier this year. Congress wanted to ask about why they added a citizenship question to the census.
Tlaib joked that Congress could hold the officials in Detroit. “I will tell them they can hold all those people right here in Detroit,” she joked. “We’ll take care of them and make sure they show up to the committee hearings.”
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sent a letter to the House on Friday saying that the administration would not comply with an “impeachment inquiry” into President Donald Trump until a vote was held on the floor of the House, as is necessary for a formal impeachment inquiry to begin.
