Americans in Afghanistan are in very, very real danger.
And our very own government doesn’t seem to eager to help them.
America’s official notice to Americans trying to escape Afghanistan after the Taliban’s rapid takeover simply told them to make their way to the airport in Kabul, adding that their safety on the trip there was NOT guaranteed.
10,000 to 15,000 Americans that need to leave Afghanistan IMMEDIATELY for their safety are trapped around the capital of Kabul.
Here is the government’s official letter to the Americans still trapped in Afghanistan:
To American Citizens,
Thank you for registering your request to be evacuated from Afghanistan. The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan has confirmed that an undefined number of U.S. government-provided flights will begin soon. Please make your way to Hamid Karzai International Airport at this time.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR SECURITY AS YOU MAKE THIS TRIP.
Currently, 11,000 people in Afghanistan are self-identifying as Americans, with many more refusing to acknowledge their ties to the United States for their personal safety.
Former official in the George W. Bush administration Robert Charles estimates that there may be as many as 29,000 Americans trapped in Afghanistan that are not currently admitting they are American, bringing the total up to a possible 40,000 Americans requiring evacuation.
