The U.S. Senate just voted ‘yes’ and President Trump is smiling. He has scored another victory, and this one was a landslide vote of 73 to 17. Liberal senators can’t stop him.
Despite protests from anti-Trump Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), the president’s nominee for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Judge Danielle J. Hunsaker of Oregon, was easily confirmed for the post.
Merkley claimed that Hunsaker did not have the experience needed for the appointment, however, in a rare split between Oregon’s two senators, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) disagreed and praised her “judicial temperament.”
At 42-years-old, Hunsaker has many years to serve, which is part of Trump’s strategy: Nominate younger candidates for as many judicial posts as possible who will uphold the rule of law and provide stability.
In addition to her current position as presiding judge in Washington County, Hunsaker was previously a partner in a local law firm and has clerked for several judges. She is a graduate of the University of Ohio College of Law.
Trump continues to seek out qualified candidates to fill federal judicial positions nationwide. The work he is doing now will pay dividends for generations to come.
