The FBI is investigating the death of Jeffrey Epstein in a Manhattan prison cell as a possible criminal enterprise, Bureau of Prisons Director Kathleen Hawk Sawyer told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
Sawyer said to Sen. Lindsey Graham that Epstein’s death was a “black eye on the entire Bureau of Prisons.” Two prison guards have been arrested for tampering with prison logs after failing to check on Epstein at 20-minute intervals.
“With a case this high profile, there has got to be either a major malfunction of the system or criminal enterprise at foot to allow this to happen,” Graham reasoned.
The New York medical examiner ruled that Epstein’s death on August 10 as a suicide, but many including famous forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden have questioned that ruling.
“All the victims of Mr. Epstein have to have their heart ripped out as they will never see justice,” Graham said of Epstein’s premature death.
