Republicans in the House called on Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) to recuse himself from the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump during a closed door Intelligence Committee briefing Friday after Schiff acknowledged that his office had contact with a whistleblower before his complaint was filed.
“They are now fact witnesses in the same investigation that they are now running,” said Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX). “Nowhere else in the United States can you be both a fact witness and prosecutor of any kind, much less an investigation to remove the president from office.”
“It is entirely inappropriate and Chairman Schiff should disqualify himself from running this investigation,” he said.
The Washington Post gave Schiff four Pinocchios for claiming in a September 17 MSNBC interview that his office had not talked to the whistleblower.
Schiff later acknowledged that an aide had spoken to the whistleblower and that he was aware of the charges in the report.
