President Donald Trump called House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “corrupt politicians” on Friday as they continue their efforts to impeach him.
“The public is watching and seeing for themselves how unfair this process is. Corrupt politicians, Pelosi and Schiff, are trying to take down the Republican Party. It will never happen, we will take back the House!” the president tweeted.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham acknowledged that it looked increasingly like Democrats would impeach the president after a vote to formalize impeachment procedures passed the House without a single Republican vote. “That’s something we’re expecting, but we can always hope the Dems will come to their senses,” Grisham said. “They know the president has [done] nothing wrong.”
Grisham also said the impeachment inquiry was a “sham” and a “kangaroo court.” A majority of Americans agreed in at least one poll that Democrats were politically motivated in their impeachment efforts.
The House continues to flounder as it tries to find anything actually worth impeaching Trump, with Pelosi most recently talking about taking another look at the Mueller report to find material months after the public decided there wasn’t anything impeachment-worthy contained there.
