North Carolina’s Board of Elections has called for a new election in the contested race for U.S. House of Representatives in the state’s 9th congressional district.
Though official tallies showed the Republican candidate Mark Harris winning, many believed that ballot fraud may have changed the outcome of the election. Harris’ narrow 905-vote win was never certified, and state election officials suspected illegal ballot harvesting.
The Republican candidate recently called for new elections, which stunned many observers.
“I believe a new election should be called,” said Harris. “It’s become clear to me that public confidence in the 9th District has been undermined to an extent that a new election is warranted.”
The voters will now have the ultimate say. Again.
