Trump Makes The Call… Nation In Shock
The nation was rocked by two separate mass shooting incidents over the weekend that combined to leave more than 30 people dead and several dozen others wounded.
The first took place at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, ostensibly for racial motivations, and resulted in more than 20 killed and more than 20 others injured. The second occurred in Dayton, Ohio, for reasons that remain unclear at this time, which left 9 people dead and roughly three times as many wounded.
In response to the tragic loss of life, President Donald Trump announced in a pair of tweets that he would order the flags at the White House and other government facilities to be flown at half-staff in honor of the innocent victims.
“Today, I authorized the lowering of the flags to half-staff at all Federal Government buildings in honor of the victims of the tragedies in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio,” the president tweeted Sunday.
He added, “The flags at the White House will be lowered today through Thursday, August 8. Melania and I are praying for all those impacted by this unspeakable act of evil!”
There will undoubtedly be the typical furious debate about various proposed solutions to prevent mass shootings in the future, but for at least a day or two, partisan political debates can wait while the nation comes together and grieves for those lost in yet another senseless act of violence.
