Supreme Court Announcement – Kavanaugh Is…
President Trump’s two Supreme Court nominees, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, have served as reliable conservatives since being confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Now a major case is set to test Kavanaugh and the entire court.
According to reports, a majority of the Supreme Court has signaled it may allow a 40-foot cross on public land in Maryland to remain standing. The cross has stood for over 90 years and serves as a memorial to men who died during World War I.
All eyes will be on the court’s conservative members and whether they hold together as a block to ensure a 5-4 victory for the cross’s defenders, which include the Trump Administration, the American Legion, and the Maryland Parks Commission.
Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association and an opponent of the memorial, claimed in an interview that the cross “was intended to be a Christian symbol from the beginning” and as such it “can’t be a symbol for all.”
“The Supreme Court should honor the way Gold-Star mothers chose to remember the service and sacrifice of their sons who died defending our freedom,” counters Kelly Shackelford, president of the First Liberty Institute.
He continued, “If this gravestone is bulldozed to the ground, it’s only a matter of time before the wrecking ball turns on Arlington National Cemetery and the hundreds of memorials like this one across the country.”
