Ocasio-Cortez Issues Shock Demand To Americans – She’s Lost It
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) claims to represent the common people and a more equal distribution of wealth, but her view on congressional pay raises suggests otherwise.
Ocasio-Cortez thinks her $174,000 salary just isn’t enough, lamenting, “Members are paid more than avg – but job reqs 2 residences + we can’t take tax deductions for work costs.”
The freshman congresswoman also claimed that higher pay reduces the temptation to “take advantage of insider trading loopholes.”
That argument is unlikely to sit well with most voters, however.
A new Business Insider poll found that only 9 percent of respondents favor a salary increase for Congress.
In contrast, a full 55 percent believe congressional salaries should be cut, while 17 percent believe the rate is just right.
