Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who referred to himself as Obama’s wingman during his tenure, has put out a shocking statement aimed at Democrat presidential candidates who might think about attacking former President Barack Obama’s record to get at current frontrunner Joe Biden.
Holder tweeted that hopefuls in his party should not try to attack Obama’s record when attacking Biden’s actions as vice-president. “Be wary of attacking the Obama record. Build on it. Expand it. But there is little to be gained — for you or the party — by attacking a very successful and still popular Democratic President,” Holder wrote.
During the most recent debate, New York Mayor Bill deBlasio repeatedly asked Biden about whether he had ever asked Obama to deport fewer people while he was Vice-President. The Affordable Care Act also came up during the debate as Biden said Harris and deBlasio’s efforts to champion “Medicare for All” as a way to repeal Obamacare.
It would only be natural to question Obama’s record as a way to get at Biden, which may have led Obama to put the message out there via Holder that it wouldn’t be a good idea.
Whether or not the candidates will listen to Holder going forward is anyone’s guess.
