Mueller Bombshell – Hold The Presses
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s witch hunt against President Trump and his allies is winding down, but not without a bombshell dropping at the eleventh hour. Washington is buzzing about this unexpected news.
Mueller has worked overtime to make his “collusion” investigation as painful as possible, and he continues coming up short. His latest humiliation is the measly prison sentence he squeezed out of Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.
Federal judge T.S. Ellis has sentenced Manafort to 47 months in prison — less than four years — on counts related to fraud, however, Mueller’s team was seeking a substantially higher. He has also already served nine months of the term.
Judge Ellis didn’t buy the argument by the special counsel that Manafort should be held to the suggested federal guidelines of 19-to-24 years in prison, calling the suggestion “excessive” and emphasizing he “has lived an otherwise blameless life.”
Manafort’s attorneys appeared to make the more convincing case on behalf of their client. They pointed out that he had already spent 50 hours with prosecutors, thereby showing cooperating with the federal government’s investigation.
The special counsel has attempted to “vilify Mr. Manafort as a lifelong and irredeemable felon,” said Manafort’s attorneys, and has also spread “misinformation about Mr. Manafort to impugn his character in a manner that this country has not experienced in decades.”
