Justice Roberts Does The Unthinkable – It’s Over, He Ended It
Chief Justice John Roberts, nominated by then-President George W. Bush, was supposed to be a conservative stalwart. Since then, he’s sided with liberals too often and, now, he’s about to do the unthinkable.
As Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have worked to move the Supreme Court to the right, Roberts is reportedly set to lurch further left and slow down the court’s conservative resurgence, such as on the issue of Obamacare — which is set to come before the court again.
Law Professor Garrett Epps wrote a piece for the liberal news magazine, The Atlantic, suggesting Roberts “might have to decide whether to sacrifice his conservative credibility a second time to protect the Court from the opprobrium of scuttling the nation’s health-care system.”
This would be a surprising notion back in 2005 following Roberts’s confirmation by the Senate, but his true colors eventually came through: He will forever be known as the Chief Justice who rewrote Obamacare from the bench in order to save it.
Author Joan Biskupic, in her biography of Roberts, The Chief: The Life and Turbulent Times of Chief Justice John Roberts, wrote that his “moves were not consistent and his legal arguments were not entirely coherent” on Obamacare.
“But he brought people and their different interests together,” she wrote. “He acted, in short, more like a politician” than a Supreme Court justice. This alone provides a window into Roberts’s philosophy, which is one of ‘compromise.’ Trump must be reelected so he can appoint more justices to counter Roberts.
