He Just Resigned – White House In Shock
A high-profile member of President Trump’s administration has abruptly resigned from office, stunning the White House and political observers alike.
Brock Long was nominated by Trump to serve as administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and confirmed by the Senate in June 2017. In a public statement announcing his resignation, Long said leading FEMA was the “opportunity of a lifetime” and he “could not be prouder to have worked alongside the devoted, hardworking men and women of FEMA”.
During Long’s tenure, he presided over the government’s response to the Harvey, Maria, and Irma hurricanes. Liberal politicians and reporters seized on the chance to criticize a Trump official, particularly when Maria hit the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, creating a media circus around the tragedy to hurt the administration’s credibility.
The obvious smear campaign didn’t work. As Trump himself has pointed out, “We’ve put a lot of money and a lot of effort into Puerto Rico and I think most of the people in Puerto Rico appreciate what we are doing”. With Long’s departure, Deputy Administrator Peter Gaynor is now serving as acting administrator.
