Elizabeth Warren Quits Suddenly – Ends It
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) has finally surrendered her hard-fought claim of Native American ancestry.
The tipping for Warren was not the lack of historical or genealogical evidence or the accusations that she faked her heritage to further her academic career. Nor was it the DNA test that revealed her potential Native-American blood to be no greater than that of the average European-American.
What triggered Warren’s white flag was an unexpected new battlefront, this time facing off against the Cherokee Nation and its Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr., who railed,
“Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong… It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven.”
This rift pushed Warren to apologize to the Cherokee Nation, which then responded, “We are encouraged by her action and hope that the slurs and mockery of tribal citizens and Indian history and heritage will now come to an end.”
