BREAKING: Top 2020 Democrat Abruptly Quits – Nation In Shock
Democrat Senator Tom Udall just made the announcement that he is dropping out of the 2020 race after deciding to not seek a third term.
Udall spent decades in government before being elected to the Senate, and has served as a New Mexico Senator since 2009.
Udall is the first Democrat senator to announce a retirement since 2016. Two Republican senators have already announced their intentions to retire after their terms are up in 2020.
Udall disclosed that he made the decision because “worst thing anyone in public office can do is believe the office belongs to them.”
However, the 70-year-old Senator revealed his true motivations when he said that “without the distraction of another campaign” he’ll have more time to “stop this president’s assault on our democracy and our communities.”
His decision to resign from his position leaves the seat up for grabs, but strategists are confident that the seat will remain Democrat.
