Attorney General Releases Shock Trump Decision – Millions Surprised
Attorney General William Barr has put to rest concerns that he might side against President Trump’s national emergency declaration for border wall funding.
As Trump vetoed a congressional resolution aimed at revoking his executive order, Barr gave an unequivocal defense of the order’s legality.
“Mr. President, your declaration of an emergency on the southern border was clearly authorized under the law and consistent with past precedent,” Barr said.
The attorney general explained that the National Emergencies Act gives the President “broad discretionary authority… to identify and respond to emergent circumstances that require a decisive response.”
In contrast to the congressional Democrats and 12 GOP senators who disputed the validity of Trump’s national emergency declaration, Barr insisted the southern border crisis “is exactly the kind of emergency that Presidents are permitted to address.”
Barr is a crucial ally in this debate, as Trump will depend on the DOJ to defend his executive order against potential legal challenges.
